Jump to Recipe Print Recipe Comments

How to make lavender bath bombs at home! This easy DIY is made with simple ingredinets and makes a great gift.

This week I tried making my own bath bombs for the first time, and now I'm hooked! This recipe is SO easy, I can't believe I never tried making them before.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

I hurt my lower back a couple of days ago, so I used this as a chance to test out my recipe. They were absolutely perfect in the bath, held together really well, and fizzed for a long time. Of course they smelled amazing too! Let's face it, who doesn't need some reset & relaxation this time of year?

A little bit of information about the healing qualities of lavender essential oil, before we get started...

In aromatherapy lavender can be used topically:

    • to help relieve joint or muscle pain associated with sprains, strains & rheumatoid arthritis
    • or inhaled can act as a nervine and calmative which enhances relaxation
    • or inhaled to reduce the symptoms of cold & cough
    • when experiencing digestive discomfort can act as a carminative and antispasmodic
    • to help relieve headache

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup baking soda
    • ½ cup citric acid
    • ½ cup cornstarch
    • ¼ cup tablespoons epsom salt
    • 2 teaspoons sweet almond oil
    • 1 teaspoon water
    • 20 drops lavender essential oil
    • a few tablespoons of dried organic lavender flowers

    Step by Step Directions

3 heart shaped bath bombs with lavender flowers on top, and bottle of lavender essential oil on white surface from above

    1. In a large bowl combine baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch, Epsom salt, and dried lavender.

    2. Combine almond oil, water, and essential oil in a separate small bowl.

    3. Whisk the wet mixture into the dry - slowly. You can test to see if the mix holds together by gently pressing a handful together. If the mixture doesn’t hold lightly, use a spray bottle with water to add more moisture to the mixture. Be careful not to add too much water, or the mixture will fizz and not form correctly in the mold.

    4. Once it’s the right consistency, press the mixture into your mold - really packing it in firmly. Allow to dry overnight before carefully removing from the mold.

    Enjoy in a warm bath!

** If lavender essential oil is not your favourite smell, you could also try frankincense, peace & calming, rosemary and eucalyptus, or ylang ylang and orange essential oils. Get creative with your blends and have fun making them!
