Chocolate Chia & Cashew Protein Bites

The perfect snack for back to school season – you can make these easy protein balls ahead of time and throw them in lunch boxes for a filling, delicious snack. Be sure to make a big batch because these are so tasty, everyone will be reaching for more!

I don’t know about you, but I’m down for healthy snacks any day! It could have something to do with the fact that I work in a health food store, and am surrounded by delicious food all day… but I’m constantly looking for protein bars and other snacks to keep me energized and focused.

In an effort to purchase less packaged foods and save money, I decided to start making my own protein bites. They are so easy to make, and even more delicious when you share them with others! I know that there are many variations and ways to make these, but so far this recipe has become a favourite in our house (I’ve also been meaning to try these Superfood Greens & Matcha Bliss Balls)!

These easy & nutritious protein bites are perfect for breakfast, but are also great to snack on throughout the day! Simple, tasty, and nutritious. What more could you ask for?


  • 4 pitted majool dates
  • 1/2 cup *raw cacao powder
  • 1/2 cup shredded, unsweetened coconut
  • 1/2 cup cashew butter
  • 1/2 cup chia seeds (I used white chia seeds)
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup coconut butter

{ Raw cacao powder is made from cold pressed cocoa beans, where as cocoa powder is roasted at high temperatures. Raw cacao has a much higher nutritional value, is a great antioxidant, and contains beneficial enzymes. }


  • Place the dates in a bowl and cover with water – let sit for at least an hour (you can soak them overnight if you have time) to soften.
  • Place the dates in a food processor and blend until smooth.
  • Add in the rest of the ingredients and blend on high. Spoon into a bowl and let cool in the fridge for 5-10 minutes. Roll into bite-sized balls. Optional: decorate by rolling in shredded coconut or cacao powder. Store in the refrigerator.
