10 Ways to Use Peppermint Essential Oil
-
To help relieve joint or muscle pain associated with sprains, strains & rheumatoid arthritis.
Dilute with a carrier oil (such as coconut oil) or apply neat (undiluted) to sore and tired muscles. You will feel an instant tingling sensation, and notice that it helps very quickly.
-
Enhances relaxation - peppermint acts as a nervine and calmative.
I like to add 10 drops to a 10ml roller bottle - then roll it on my temples and the back of my neck. Especially helpful when you have a headache at the end of a long work day!
-
Can be inhaled to reduce the symptoms of cold & cough.
Peppermint is so cleansing and I find it helps with sinus congestion so quickly when I have a cough or cold. You can easily make a chest rub with coconut oil + peppermint + eucalyptus - this is the first thing I do when I feel a cold coming on!
-
When experiencing digestive discomfort, peppermint can act as a carminative and antispasmodic.
Dilute with a carrier oil or apply neat. Apply to the area of discomfort, and you'll start to notice relief very quickly. Or: Add 1-2 drops to an empty veggie capsule with coconut oil, and take internally. More on essential oils for digestive support here.

Nausea & Motion Sickness
I'm that person that gets car sick on just about any road, if I look down even to read a text or look at a map for 2 seconds. I find that peppermint is so soothing when inhaled or applied topically for this kind of nausea. I never go on long car rides without it!

Freshen Breath
Peppermint contains the natural chemical constituent menthol. It can help prevent halitosis and soothe toothaches with its cooling/ numbing properties. In a spray bottle, combine water with a couple drops of peppermint essential oil. I like to keep this one handy in my purse. Just make sure you give it a quick shake before you use it, and spray 1-2 times into the back of your mouth. Yum!

Natural Bug Repellent
Ticks, ants, mosquito, spiders, and even cockroaches don't like peppermint oil. you can find my natural bug repellent recipe here!

Soothe Sunburns and skin inflammation
Had a little bit too much fun in the sun? Peppermint is soooo cooling and soothing when applied topically. I like to add witch hazel + aloe vera gel + 10 drops lavender and 10 drops peppermint to a little spray bottle. Shake it up, and spray it all over your skin after a full day in the sun.

DIY Shampoo
Peppermint can be very soothing for your scalp - especially for those who have dandruff. Combine with rosemary essential oil for a blend that encourages hair growth! You can find my DIY shampoo & conditioner recipe here.
