10 Ways to Use Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oil is one of my absolute staples! I go through a bottle or two of this one every month – it has so many uses in my natural medicine cabinet. Here are ten easy ways to use peppermint essential oil (trust me, once you learn these tricks, you won’t remember what you used to do without it)!

I’d like to first remind you to make sure you’re only using the most pure essential oils… After all, anything that goes on your body, should be good enough to go in your body. Everything we put on our skin is absorbed into the body! This is why I choose to use and share Young Living essential oils, over any other oil company – they are the most pure essential oils in the world! Read more about their Seed to Seal quality here.

It’s as simple as creating a wholesale account with Young Living! There are two options: you can purchase a Premium Starter Kit (which includes 11 essential oils + a diffuser, and is the most economical way to go), or you can create a wholesale account for free in Canada, and purchase any essential oils you’d like at 24% off retail.

  1. Select the “Member” membership type. This choice allows you to get discounted pricing and it qualifies you for the potential of referral commissions, and allows you to enjoy the benefits and convenience of Essential Rewards.
  2. Enter my enroller number: 3419014 into both the enroller and sponsor fields
  3. Select your country and language.
  4. Click “Continue”.
  5. Fill out your shipping information. Click “I agree” to the terms and conditions, and click “Agree and Continue.”
  6. Choose the Premium Starter Kit (or if you’re in Canada, you can skip this step and order any products you’d like once your account is set up).
  7. Once you’ve completed this process, you will be given your own member number, which will allow you to start shopping with wholesale prices immediately. At this point, I recommend that you sign up for Essential Rewards, so that you can earn FREE oils and enjoy discounted shipping every month!

10 Ways to Use Peppermint Essential Oil

  1. To help relieve joint or muscle pain associated with sprains, strains & rheumatoid arthritis.

Dilute with a carrier oil (such as coconut oil) or apply neat (undiluted) to sore and tired muscles. You will feel an instant tingling sensation, and notice that it helps very quickly.

  2. Enhances relaxation – peppermint acts as a nervine and calmative.

I like to add 10 drops to a 10ml roller bottle – then roll it on my temples and the back of my neck. Especially helpful when you have a headache at the end of a long work day!

  3. Can be inhaled to reduce the symptoms of cold & cough.

Peppermint is so cleansing and I find it helps with sinus congestion so quickly when I have a cough or cold. You can easily make a chest rub with coconut oil + peppermint + eucalyptus – this is the first thing I do when I feel a cold coming on!

  4. When experiencing digestive discomfort, peppermint can act as a carminative and antispasmodic.

Dilute with a carrier oil or apply neat. Apply to the area of discomfort, and you’ll start to notice relief very quickly. Or: Add 1-2 drops to an empty veggie capsule with coconut oil, and take internally. More on essential oils for digestive support here.

  5. Mental Clarity, Focus & Energy

Peppermint is so invigorating! Have a long car ride ahead of you? A sleepy and slow afternoon at the office? Add 1 drop of peppermint, and 1 drop of orange essential oil to the palms of your hands. Rub the together, and inhale deeply. This blend will wake you up in no time.

  6. Nausea & Motion Sickness

I’m that person that gets car sick on just about any road, if I look down even to read a text or look at a map for 2 seconds. I find that peppermint is so soothing when inhaled or applied topically for this kind of nausea. I never go on long car rides without it!

  7. Freshen Breath

Peppermint contains the natural chemical constituent menthol. It can help prevent halitosis and  soothe toothaches with its cooling/ numbing properties. In a spray bottle, combine water with a couple drops of peppermint essential oil. I like to keep this one handy in my purse. Just make sure you give it a quick shake before you use it, and spray 1-2 times into the back of your mouth. Yum!

  8. Natural Bug Repellent

Ticks, ants, mosquito, spiders, and even cockroaches don’t like peppermint oil. you can find my natural bug repellent recipe here!

  9. Soothe Sunburns and skin inflammation

Had a little bit too much fun in the sun? Peppermint is soooo cooling and soothing when applied topically. I like to add witch hazel + aloe vera gel + 10 drops lavender and 10 drops peppermint to a little spray bottle. Shake it up, and spray it all over your skin after a full day in the sun.

  10. DIY Shampoo

Peppermint can be very soothing for your scalp – especially for those who have dandruff. Combine with rosemary essential oil for a blend that encourages hair growth! You can find my DIY shampoo & conditioner recipe here.
