10 Ways to Use Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is one of the most well known essential oils on the planet, for good reason! I love all of my essential oils…but if I had to choose just one oil to use for the rest of my life, lavender would probably be it!


There are actually over 30 different species of lavender, and many other essential oil companies produce lavender essential oil from hybrid species (for example Lavandin). Young Living produces the most amazing lavender essential oil I have ever smelled or used. This 100% pure essential oil is extracted from the flowers of Lavendula anguvstifolia, and is steam distilled. True lavender has the largest amount of Esters out of all the lavender species – meaning it has more powerful balancing and calming properties.

Lavender is so soothing for dry and damaged skin. I use it every day in my face oil serum to help moisturize my skin. Or, simply add 2-3 drops to some coconut oil and massage into your skin.

2. Headaches

Lavender is approved by Health Canada as a Natural Health Product! It can be used in aromatherapy to help relieve headaches. You can apply it topically undiluted (2-3 drops on the temples and neck) or make this amazing Headache Melt roller blend.

3. Better Sleep

Make a linen spray with water, witch hazel, and lavender essential oil in a small spray bottle. Spray on your pillow before bed for a deep, restful sleep. You can also add it to your diffuser at bedtime with cedarwood essential oil for a very relaxing atmosphere.

4. Seasonal Roller

Add 10 drops Lemon, 10 drops, Lavender, and 10 drops Peppermint to a 10 ml roller bottle with fractionated coconut oil (or your choice of carrier oil).  Haven’t you heard? This blend helps with seasonal congestion. Roll it on your chest, neck and wrists for respiratory support in the spring and fall.


5. Healthy Hair

Massage 2-3 drops of lavender into your scalp for strong, long hair. Or, you can dilute it with jojoba oil or coconut oil for a moisturizing scalp treatment.

6. Stress Relief

Lavender can be inhaled or applied topically to act as a nervine and calmative which enhances relaxation. This is a great reason to use lavender every day! Do you experience a lot of stress and headaches? Make a roller bottle with fractionated coconut oil and 20 drops of lavender and keep it on hand at all times!

7. Strong & Healthy Eyelashes

Lavender is a key ingredient in the Young Living Savvy Minerals Mascara!  Add 1-2 drops of lavender to your tube of mascara to help define the appearance of your lashes while conditioning and nourishing them.

8. Cough and Cold Remedy

Lavender can be used topically or inhaled to reduce symptoms of cough and cold. Add 5 drops to the diffuser when you’re feeling under the weather, or apply it to your chest to soothe a cough with a couple drops of coconut oil and R.C.

9. Digestive Upset

When experiencing digestive discomfort can act as a carminative and antispasmodic. Apply topically to the desired area.

10. Muscle and Joint Pain

Lavender can be used topically to help relieve joint or muscle pain associated with sprains, strains & rheumatoid arthritis. Apply 2-3 drops to the desired area.
